Analysis 04-03-2008

Top Stories for 04-03-2008

WJTV = POLICE CHIEF ACCUSED OF HAVING SEX WITH A 14 YEAR OLD GIRL.
WLBT = MARK SEEPE FUNERAL DIRECTORS AND CREMATORIUM IMPROPERLY CO- MINGLED HUMAN REMAINS.
WAPT = HUMAN BONES WERE FOUND IN A DUMPSTER OUTSIDE OF A JACKSON CREMATORIUM.

Two of the stations decided to cover the human remains story, while the other chose to cover the Police/Sex Scandal. What does this say about the state of affairs in Jackson, MS. For one, i think that this says that Jackson media WLBT, WJTV, & WAPT all report the bad news first.

More commentary than that I don't know what to say. to really analyze the news you must have a goal, a purpose, a reason for doing so. Here I am just posting these to compare the top stories. over time, this would be a relevant search for a new news station, like WDBD who is supposed to start a newscast very soon.

Not much regard these days for either the living or the dead is there.

Don't you think the Mark Seepe story needs to be in the news? The law isn't going to protect Mississippi's citizens.. there is no law. If it wasn't for the news reports we wouldn't have a clue about how he operates.

I just wish I'd known sooner.

Ya, on the flip side, it's been said that they don't report the bad news in Myrtle Beach because it would freak out the vacationers. I don't know for sure, only been here 5 months, but makes sense, esp compared to the number of ambulance/fire truck emergencies you see when driving around. Unless the emergency vehicle drivers are just trying to entertain themselves.

It really does depend on where you are in the country, what time of year it is, what is going on in national news, and what the other stations are reporting. Crime is one of those things that comes up when it is really really bad, or there is nothing else to report about.
